I ridiculously don't know what I'm doing in starting a community, but I think it's a valuable addition to the Dreamwidth community. Therefore, this is a work in progress, and mistakes may be made and updates may be posted as needed.

Welcome to Tarot Studies! This started as an idea for a place for me to write my daily Tarot card draws as I work with my decks and get feedback from others on how to interpret the cards. Now I'd like to encourage everyone who would like to do a daily Tarot draw to do it here, where other members can comment, encourage, and discuss the results of your reading.

Also, if you'd like to talk about your decks, spreads, and anything you are doing to study your cards, please do so!

If you'd like a tag for your own daily draws, please comment on this entry and I'll make one with your username.

Welcome and have fun!

Hello and a spread

Hi all--

This is my first time posting in this group. I just got the Fifth Spirit Tarot deck ( www.fifthspirittarot.com/) and I wanted to try a little spread with it.

I've been feeling apprehensive because this is the first Christmas that I won't be spending with extended family. The spread I used was a three-card spread: situation, action to take, and outcome.

At first, I decided I was going to use reversals.

1 - 6 of Cups reversed. This made sense to me as a situation because I was used to the nostalgia of going to my childhood home for Christmas, but that wasn't happening this year. So the original card, but blocked.

2 - 5 of Swords reversed. I interpreted this as "Don't get into dumb fights with your nuclear family," (aka my spouse and kid) but then I wasn't sure if that would be a valid reversal meeting.

3 - 5 of Wands upright. So it seemed like, "No matter what you do, you're bound for some disagreements and conflict."

I was kind of frustrated and not sure I was reading the reversals correctly. So then I decided to redo the reading, only this time with the intention of only using upright meanings. Oddly enough, I only drew upright cards this time.

1 - 4 of Cups - I can see this card too, as having more than I need, or not appreciating the gifts I receive enough. Kind of feeling emotionally tapped out too.

2 - The Hermit - This makes sense to me as an advice card, especially when paired with the first reading. Just take some time out to be by yourself tomorrow.

3 - The Fool - maybe a return to a feeling of innocence, a feeling of Christmas in spite of everything? I hope so, though I'm not sure how that relates to the first reading.

Feel free to leave suggestions or your favorite spreads below! I hope everyone is doing okay with Solstice/Christmas week 2020.

Hi everyone! *taps microphone* Is this thing on? (I know, I know, I'm a dork).

I've been participating in daily draws via monthly challenges for a while now, and I've noticed they're always incredibly Eurocentric, and almost always biased towards the United States. There's nothing wrong with that, and they're A LOT of fun, but I wanted to do something for the Australian tarot readers!

Everyone of course is welcome to join, do as many or as few questions as you want! You're welcome to post what you draw here (it'd be great to revive this little community) or on your own blog or social media. This is the first, but hopefully won't be the last. Happy tarot reading, everyone! (A huge huge thanks to [personal profile] calissa for her photography and layouts, and contributing some of the questions).

30 Day Tarot Challenge?

A lot of artists etc. say that thirty day challenges are a great way to improve on something you want to practice more, so I was wondering if anyone knows any good ones for tarot? Not so much the ones that are just questions about how long you've been doing tarot or whatever, but ones that encourage you to pick up your cards every day.

Beginner resources?

How active is this community? I'd love to join a DW community to find other tarot readers but it seems like a lot of groups are a bit deserted. If anyone is active drop a comment and say hi!

I'm looking to get rid of a whole bunch of my books - the ones relevant to this community are two sets of tarot cards + interpretation book, a celtic dragon one and a Leonardo da Vinci one - both in German. Is there anyone here who understands the language and might be interested in these? I'd ask you to share the cost of shipping with me if it's more than 10€, but otherwise it'd be at no cost to you. :)

(If you happen to want anything else from that collection, I'm of course also happy to send you that!)

I'm doing them. A Card a Day and Alternative Tarot. I'm doing the journaling part over Never Unmindful–ward. (Unless I don't want to put it out there Googleable, in which case it'll be under lock at [personal profile] alexeigynaix. Comment on the friends-only banner if you want to be added, though if I don't know you so well then I won't promise you will be.)

Here goes nothing? XD

Shadowscapes Tarot is absolutely a thing of beauty.

I'm using the deck interview spread here below:

This all kind of sounds like Shadowscapes is a good deck for me to use for regular draws to inspire creative work? :-D

I have counted up the figures on the Rider-Waite-Smith tarot deck by gender. (The images on learntarot.com do not have one single person of color. Not one.) There are 123 altogether, if we don't count at all the wedding party on the Four of Wands (I can't get a proper head count on those from the image on learntarot.com).

Below the cut is a table with my counts, divided into rows by card sorted by suit and into columns by gender: "I" is "indeterminate" (I couldn't identify the gender of the figure) and "O" for "other" is angels and devils and disembodied hands—but not animals. "T" totals the figures on that card.

I hope you all find this useful!

poorly formatted table that I should fix to be not-tab-delimited on account of Dreamwidth doesn't like tab characters; sorry about this )

Fool’s Journey: The Fascinating Life of Pamela Colman Smith, the possibly-queer woman of color who illustrated the Rider-Waite-Smith deck.

(On that note, today's draw, from the Rider-Waite-Smith deck, is the Hanged Man. I note the keyword "discernment" in the deck booklet. This is significant for Reasons.)

 Hey y'all!

I'm looking to start a pagan/tarot blog, and I need some help figuring out a name (because figuring out a name is the hardest). I'm also doing a bit of preliminary interest-gauging to start narrowing down my niche in the blogosphere.

Would you be able to fill out a VERY brief survey? There might be more where this comes from, but for now this is very simple. You can fill out the survey here.

Also: if anyone would like a free reading done, I could certainly use more practice. Please comment on this post or message me, and we'll figure something out.

My cards keep warning me about someone who is going to be trying to trick or deceive me, bad advice, and things like that. It's starting to get me paranoid. Anyone have any advice on this? I'm a bit unsure of how to proceed. When I ask what I can do, it just says trust myself and everything will be fine.

My deck is not being very friendly with me lately. I don't think that I am using it enough, I'd gone a few weeks without using it, maybe it's just mad at me.

Any good spreads to use for feeling restless and stuck?
