I watched this video at work and it was fantastic. It's called "How to find new music in the age of algorithms" and it was put out by Notes From The Archives. Basically, he talks about how

I wanted to make a little page of links to some of the resources he highlights.

Music Journalism:

Pitchfork (duh) - especially the best new music section
Hearing Things - started by ex-Pitchfork writers/staff
The Wire - Have been around a long time, cutting edge
The Quietus - Underground and experimental music. Album of the week section.
Bandcamp Daily - highlighting obscure music through features and recommendations

Music Influencers:

Anthony Fantano of the Needle Drop
Deep Cuts - Mostly inactive, but good back catalogue

Forums and Social Media:

This one's a bit of a minefield, but with a little digging I bet I could find some good places.

Rate Your Music
The Ambient Forum especially was highlighted in this video

NTS Radio

This is an online radio station of curated sets by artists. Sessions?
He mentioned in the video that there's a session focusing on all the jazz music mentioned in Haruki Murakami novels and that sounds so far up my alley it's insane. I found it! It's here.
He also mentioned that Theo Parrish has ultra-long soul and funk mixes which would be perfect for cleaning. Maybe like My Analog Journal?

(And if you don't know about My Analog Journal, it's awesome. A YouTube channel that specializes in obscure records from all over the world, especially funk, soul, Latin, and jazz)

I'm excited about the NTS Radio Reimagining Country session with Jamal Khadar.

NTS also has mixes and sessions from many different musical artists.

Cool and Niche Labels:

Factory Records for New Wave
International Anthem: focusing on jazz
Hubro: Norwegian label that puts out jazz and jazz fusion with post-rock, ambient, and more
Sacred Bones Records: Underground and experimental. It's not a genre, but a vibe.
Sublime Frequencies: Folk, field recordings, and ethnomusicology

I already found a fantastic artist that I love through this video (Moor Mother), and I'm looking forward to rabbit holing my way through some of the other recommendations.

WELP NOPE

This is a NOPE right out of the bottle onto the skin, wow. I have never been so grossed out by leather and the smell of cheap gin EVER in my life.

Edit: it has been described by Brent as "elder horse girl". Leather and gin and some sort of weird animal smell.

Yes, it's true, I need to face the fact that I have much less energy than I'd like. I am trying to rest more this week but that's never easy. The to do list continues to be too long.

Because why would I want to wash clothes when I could throw together ice cream? You know what, I should throw some hand wash in the sink since I'm avoiding work this hard.

Working full time and dealing with chronic pain and migraines and being loath to take sick days is hard.

I am teaching attorneys to use GitHub next week and am updating the files in the meantime as the import from Word to Markdown files didn't go perfectly. It's nice busy work, especially as I'm not sure I can look at AI answers to legal questions today. (I hate AI.) I just might scream.

Good things: My dad and I played catch on Sunday and I wasn't in ridiculous amounts of pain the next day! I also could still catch and throw the ball okay. We just played for 15 minutes today too. It's reassuring and relieving that I am not going to be completely useless.

I really should try to work. Just popped in to say I didn't forget you (yet)!

It's another Penhaligon today, Changing Constance.

Notes: Constance is what one might call A Very Modern Woman. She has no regard for custom, and does exactly as she likes. Cool cardamom, hot pimento, salted caramel - her contrary perfume breaks every rule. Key notes cardamom salted butter caramel tobacco

And at first sniff and on the skin, it's pretty nice. I like it. There's a faint whiff of alcohol on me, though, we'll see if that sticks.

edit: it's faded QUICKLY. that is the issue with sweet pastry smells on me, alas. it's still there in my nose but not anything else? but I'll get Brent to smell later.

Penhaligon's Terrible Teddy, scent notes of "incense, leather, and vetiver".

First whiff: that is some leather and incense. I can't identify the incense, but it's definitely there. Sort of reminds me of the leather gloves we had with the thurible at church, they had a sort of similar leather and incense smell.

I had to go look up what exactly vetiver was supposed to smell like and I got this: "deep, sweet, woody, smoky, earthy, amber and balsam" and that is exactly all the things I'm smelling under the leather.

I think I like this one. Shame it's so expensive. (I find it very funny that all the perfumes that are tentatively classified as "men's perfume" are the ones I like the best and smell best on me. Except the musks, those are tough.)

edit: oh now there's some weird musk smell, where did that come from???? this one might not stay. alas!
